Animal Care Assistants

HSNEI is looking for enthusiastic, versatile, team-players who take initiative to work mornings, weekends, and/or evenings several days a week as Animal Care Assistants. Must be able to pay close attention to detail and follow written directions on animal care. Must enjoy working with animals in outdoor and indoor environments during all seasons.  Must also have a friendly and positive attitude.  Please submit a letter of interest and resume to director@hsnei.org 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Cleans and disinfects cat condos, dog kennels and other areas as needed

• Performs tasks assigned in the daily animal care log on a daily basis, including administering medication as instructed

• Handles dogs and cats, including those of unknown temperament, aggression, sick or injured

• Visually inspects animals for overall health problems and reports issues to the Animal Care Coordinator

• Ensures and maintains the proper handling of animals throughout the shelter in accordance with HSNEI Policies

• Maintains a professional and cordial working attitude

• Provides excellent customer service and assistance to volunteers

• Respects HSNEI dogs and cats and treats them with the utmost kindness and compassion

 

ABILITIES:

• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

• Ability to have close contact with domesticated animals

• Ability to handle, restrain, lift and move domesticated animals

• Ability to work in a team oriented and frequently changing environment​
