Donate New or Gently-Used Items

We welcome donations of new and gently used items that can be used at our Wellness Center, our Love & Friendship Adoption Center, and in our community outreach work. Please see the lists below for items we can and cannot accept.

You may drop off donated items in the designated areas outside the adoption entrance.

Donated blankets and supplies

Items We Accept

We are currently accepting newspaper and paper shred donations, along with the following new and gently used items:

  • Clean bath towels
  • Leads, leashes, and collars
  • Pet food and treats in unopened containers/bags
  • Cat litter
  • Enrichment supplies (slow feeder bowls, lick mats, food puzzles, new cat scratchers, and puzzle toys)
  • Cage scratchers for cats
  • No-pull harnesses (sizes Medium–XXL)
  • Blankets of any size, without stuffing
  • Live traps for our TNR program
  • Clothing and bedding (comforters, pillows, pillowcases, and sheets)

Items We Cannot Accept

We do not have the space or resources to sort and dispose of donated items we do not use, so we cannot accept:

  • Anything that is soiled, broken, or missing pieces
  • Homemade dog treats, used dog treats, and rawhides
  • Raw, refrigerated, or frozen pet food
  • Used litter boxes
  • Confetti-shredded paper
  • Furniture and household items
  • Computer equipment and office supplies (computers, mice, keyboards, monitors, printers, toner, etc.)

Wish List Shopping

To make donating simple, we curate an Amazon and a Chewy wish list with specific items we need and use regularly — ask us for the current links. Purchases can be shipped directly to HSNEI, 2345 Millennium Road, Decorah, Iowa 52101. New Chewy users also have another way to give back: through the Chewy Gives Back program, a portion of your first purchase from Chewy (from our wish list or not) is donated back to HSNEI when you use our referral link.
